Resin 3D Printer LCD Screen Replacement Guide: Compatibility Before Resolution

How to choose a resin 3D-printer LCD replacement by exact model, panel size, resolution, connector/pinout, UV transmission, protective film and exposure recalibration.

Compatibility warning: a resin-printer LCD is not a generic monitor panel. Match the exact printer model, physical panel, connector/pinout and optical behavior before ordering.

Start with the exact printer model and revision

Two screens can share a diagonal size and resolution yet use different connectors, pinouts, mounting geometry or UV transmission. Chitu Systems, for example, lists one 5.5-inch 2K Sharp replacement for the original ELEGOO Mars, Anycubic Photon, Creality LD-002R and EPAX X1—but specifically warns that the original Anycubic Photon uses an SX03 pinout while the replacement uses SX04 and therefore needs the included adapter.

Resolution alone does not establish compatibility

A 2K, 4K, 6K or 12K label describes pixel count, not whether the panel will physically or electrically work in your machine. Record the original screen model, active area, cable orientation and controller-board requirements before comparing replacements.

Monochrome upgrades can change the system, not just the panel

Some older RGB-LCD resin printers can be upgraded to monochrome screens only as a coordinated kit. Chitu's original Anycubic Photon mono upgrade, for example, pairs a 6.08-inch monochrome panel with a ChiTu L V2 motherboard. That is fundamentally different from swapping a like-for-like replacement LCD.

UV transmission can force exposure recalibration

Chitu's current Photon Mono X replacement documentation says the replacement panel has lower light transmittance than the discontinued original and recommends running an exposure test and recalibrating settings after installation. This is a critical ownership detail: a successful hardware swap does not mean the old resin profile remains correct.

Protective films are model-specific too

Screen protectors should be matched to the LCD dimensions and printer model. Chitu lists separate protective-film options for models such as Photon Mono M5s, Photon Mono X, Saturn 4 Ultra and HALOT-MAGE. Do not trim or improvise around a display area unless the manufacturer explicitly supports that method.

Replacement checklist

  1. Record the exact printer model and hardware revision.
  2. Identify the original LCD model/size and resolution.
  3. Confirm connector type, pinout and cable orientation.
  4. Check whether an adapter or controller-board change is required.
  5. Confirm mounting dimensions and protective-film size.
  6. After installation, run the manufacturer's screen/UV test.
  7. Recalibrate exposure before committing to a long print.

When replacement makes economic sense

Compare the replacement screen, shipping, protective film and your repair time with the value of the printer. A screen replacement can be rational on a capable older machine, but repeated screen failures or unavailable proprietary parts can make a newer printer cheaper over the next several years.
