Bambu Lab P2S vs X1-Carbon: The Specs That Actually Change the Decision
A constraint-first comparison of Bambu Lab P2S and X1-Carbon using current manufacturer information.
The P2S and X1-Carbon share the same 256 × 256 × 256 mm build-volume class and a 300 °C maximum nozzle temperature, so build size alone does not separate them. The decision shifts to extrusion hardware, monitoring, multi-material workflow and how much value you place on the X1-Carbon's hardened components and lidar-based system.
| Constraint | P2S | X1-Carbon |
|---|---|---|
| Build volume | 256 × 256 × 256 mm | 256 × 256 × 256 mm |
| Max nozzle | 300 °C | 300 °C |
| Default nozzle | 0.4 mm | 0.4 mm hardened steel |
| Multi-material | P2S Combo includes AMS 2 Pro | AMS compatible |
| Monitoring | 1080p high-rate live view highlighted by Bambu | 1080p chamber camera + micro lidar listed |
P2S changes the P-series workflow
Bambu describes the P2S as a reengineered P1-series machine and highlights a quick-swap hotend, 1080p high-rate live view and AMS 2 Pro on the Combo. The AMS 2 Pro adds active drying and venting, which matters to users who keep hygroscopic materials loaded for longer jobs.
X1-Carbon remains the hardened-material reference in this pair
The X1-Carbon specification sheet explicitly lists hardened-steel extruder gears and nozzle, and calls PA, PC, and fiber-reinforced polymers ideal. That is a more direct manufacturer statement for abrasive engineering materials than a generic temperature comparison.
Choose by material and workflow, not model hierarchy
If both machines fit your parts, start with the filaments you actually expect to print. If abrasive composites are central, verify the exact P2S hotend/nozzle configuration you plan to buy rather than assuming identical hardware from the shared temperature ceiling. If multi-color and active filament drying are central, compare the bundled AMS configuration and total system price.
